Reminder to all environmental health professionals who also work with private wells:
PrivateWellClass.org, our sister program, will be holding its Private Well Conference in 2025 as an in-person event! Join our teams from May 20-22 in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois, for a conference providing information and insights that can be taken home and used locally for the benefit of well owners you serve.
The conference supports the thousands of professionals who work with wells every day — including health department staff, lab personnel, extension educators, well drillers, EHPs, and researchers. The conference is pending preapproval through NEHA (National Environmental Health Association) and IL LEHP for continuing education contact hours.
The Call for Abstracts has just closed. We will be opening registration for attendees by early March, and will continue to share new information in this newsletter and our Private Well Class Partner Newsletter, and on social media.

Participants will also examine case studies to see how various facilities have overcome problems that include widely variable flows, high energy costs, and a shortage of trained system operators.

In Tap Talk episode #51, Jennifer and Steve chatted with Dr. Andrea Albertin and Dr. Yilin Zhuang of the University of Florida Extension’s Florida Well Owner Network (FWON). From intensified hurricanes to rising sea levels to eroding coasts, climate change has brought a number of significant environmental challenges to Florida. The state’s millions of well and septic users — common in urban areas as well as the typical rural ones — face unique struggles in equipping their properties to face these challenges and responding to the damage they wreak. FWON works to provide education, resources, and support to these homeowners as Florida’s landscape evolves.
